Materials required: A well-plotted plant, a bottle of caustic potash (KOH)

Procedure:

The potted plant is kept in the dark for 2-3 days to destarch it. Now half portion of a leaf is placed into the bottle of caustic potash and the remaining portion outside.

The bottle is made airtight. The plant is kept in the sunlight for 4-5 hours. Now the leaf is removed from the bottle, and iodine test is performed.

The portion outside the bottle turns blue-black, while the other half remains brown.

Conclusion: It shows that carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis. Absence of water will dehydrate the plant. Glucose and oxygen will not be produced.
