1. Preparation of agricultural land: This is the first step which is practised by a farmer before planting crops. This is done to loosen the soil, so the plant can absorb nutrients and water from the soil. This method is called ploughing. Traditionally ploughing is done by using a wooden plough which has a long wooden handle attached to an iron strip digs in the soil this wooden plough is normally pulled by animals but in the new modern era tractors and tillers are more convenient ways of doing ploughing.

2. Sowing seeds: In this step, the farmer needs to plant seeds of the respective crop that he wants to grow on his farmland. Sowing of seeds should be done carefully at an equal distance and appropriate depth, so the crop can grow properly. Traditionally farmers scatter seeds on their land this method is called broadcasting seeds, but this is not an appropriate method, so nowadays farmers use seed drills to plant a seed it is an advanced method in which seeds are planted uniformly and at a proper depth.

3. Watering the field: In this process, a farmer ensures a proper supply of water to his crop at appropriate intervals this method is called irrigation. Rainfall is the major source of water on which a farmer depends for irrigation, other sources used for watering the crops are canals, tube wells, wells, dams, ponds and lakes.
