Given:

The above figure is covered by full squares and half squares. To find the area of the figure we will go by the following rules.

$=$ Take the area of $1$ full square as $1$ sq unit.

$2 .$ Take the area of more than half-covered square also as $1$ sq unit.

$3 .$ Take the area of an exactly half-covered square as $\frac{1}{2}$ sq unit.

$4 .$ Ignore the squares which are less than half-covered.

In the triangle figure,

Area covered by fully filled squares $= 6 sq units$

Area covered by half-filled squares $= \frac{1}{2} \times 6 = 3 sq units$

The area of triangle $= (6 + 3) sq units$

Area of triangle $= 9 sq units$

Now, in Octagon figure,

Area covered by fully filled squares $= 12 sq units$

Area covered by half-filled squares $= \frac{1}{2} \times 4 = 2 sq units$

Area of Octagon $= (12 + 2) sq units$

Area of Octagon $= 14 sq units$

We know that,

$9 < 14$

Thus, area of triangle $<$ area of Octagon.
