Forests are large areas on the land that comprises the flora and fauna of that habitat. The flora includes a variety of herbs, shrubs, trees, climbers, and creepers. The fauna includes a variety of wild animals and microorganisms. There are the following layers of a rainforest-

Herbs such as grasses form the forest floor. Large animals and microorganisms live in this layer.

Shrubs and tall grasses form the understorey. The trees of this layer have large leaves to receive a maximum amount of sunlight. A few reptiles, small mammals, tree frogs, and insects live in this layer.

The trees grow above the understorey. The top of the trees forms a cover above the other plants of the forest called the canopy. The trees of this layer have smooth, oval leaves that have a pointed tip called a drip tip. Different types of birds, butterflies, monkeys, reptiles, and insects live in this layer.

Some trees grow beyond the canopy and form the emergent layer. The trees of this layer receive a maximum amount of sunlight. The leaves of these trees are small and have a waxy covering to prevent them from sunlight and prevent the loss of water through the surfaces.
