Politically, India's forefathers were regarded as a one-unit. Rajas and Maharajas of that time were constantly eager to establish their control over the whole of India. At the time of Ashoka entire country was under his control; Baluchistan and Afghanistan were also included in his empire. Rajas used to perform Ashvamedha Yajnas to become Chakravarti Rajas. During British control, the concept of political unification arose to free India from the clutches of the Britishers. India developed a democratic political system after independence. Thus, political unity had become more effective and stronger than before. India, therefore, possessed ideal political unity for more than two thousand years.
