Herbivores are heterotrophic animals that feed only on plants. They occupy the second trophic level in a food chain, and thus, they are called primary consumers. Examples include Deers, Cows, Goats, Elephants, Giraffes, Horses, etc.

Scavengers are animals that feed on the dead and decaying animals. Vultures and hyenas are scavengers. They play a very important role in maintaining the balance in the ecosystem.

In forest ecology, the canopy refers to the upper layer or habitat zone, formed by mature tree crowns and including other biological organisms (epiphytes, lianas, arboreal animals, etc). Sometimes the term canopy is used to refer to the extent of the outer layer of leaves of an individual tree or group of trees.

Food web (also called food net) is interlocking of two or more types of food chains at different trophic levels in such a way that a particular food becomes available to populations while a consumer has choice of food. Rabbit feeds on juicy plant parts. It begins to eat alternate food if the preferred species decline in number. Similarly, Rabbit is eaten by a number of carnivores like Fox, Jackal, Wild Cat and Wild Dog.
