How will you test the capability of water retention in red sandy soil, red loamy soil and black soil found in Chhattisgarh?

To test the capability of water retention in different types of soil we have to perform one activity explained as follows:

We have to collect samples of sandy soil, red loamy soil and black soil of Chhattisgarh. Fold the filter paper and place it on the funnel and put the cotton in it. Put $50$ gm of sandy soil, red loamy soil and black soil each in different funnels and place these funnels on measuring cylinders (as shown in the diagram).

Pour $50$ ml water in each sample of the soil slowly on the upper side. After sometime when the water-drops stop falling in the cylinders, measure the water collected in the cylinders.

We will find that in sandy soil's cylinder more water is present in red sandy soil less than sandy soil water and in black soil's cylinder very less amount of water is present.

Hence, the conclusion is sandy soil is having very poor water retention property as almost all the water drained and collected in the cylinder. The red sandy soil retains water while still allowing excess water to drain away. And the black soils also have high moisture-holding capacity and have the highest water retention property.
