Plants are the producers and the first link in the food chain. They provide us with food. They are the source of food.

If the number of a particular animal in the food chain disappears then the whole chain will disturb and, it affects our survival and biodiversity. It imbalance our environment. Every organism is in the food chain which is an important part because every organism depends on the other organism.
For example in a grassland food chain if the rabbits disappear totally then there would be an overproduction of grasses, whereas there would be a decline in the carnivore animals that would feed on a rabbit.

If the number of a particular animal increases, it imbalances the food chain. For example, if the rabbit population increases then the population of grass will decrease which leads to overgrazing and soil erosion.
