In previous classes, you have studied about force and some effects of force. Force is either a push or a pull. In each of the following cases, identify and write if the force is a push or a pull.

Anything that changes the position of an object and causes motion is called a force. Hence, the force can also be defined as either a push or a pull acting on an object. When a force moves an object away from something, that is a push. When force brings an object closer, that is a pull.

A bullock cart moving forward is an example of pull force. Work is done by the bullock as the direction of force applied and the direction of displacement of the cart are in the same direction.

To move a stopped trolley, we push the trolley forward. The body moves away from the person applying force.

A man carrying a bucket of water does zero work because the force required to hold the bucket and his displacement are perpendicular to each other.

When a man standing with a load on his head exerts a force on the load in an upward direction. We can say that there is a push applied on the load which is against the gravitational force.
