The Chola dynasty:
The Chola dynasty was the most powerful south Indian kingdom. During the reign of Rajaraja I and Rajendra I the empire reached its peak. They expanded their kingdom beyond south India to Sri Lanka, Java and Sumatra

Achievements of Rajaraja I:

He defeated the Cheras and seized Madurai. He invaded Sri Lanka and annexed its northern part and named it Mummadi Cholamandalam.

He constructed Rajarajesvara temple, a siva temple at Thanjavur. All the expendition of Rajaraja I was engraved on the walls of the temple.

Achievements of Rajendra I:

He annexed the whole of Sri Lanka and his army marched up to River Ganga and the dominions of Pala King, Mahipala.

He adopted a title called Gangaikonda and a new capital was formed as Gangaikonda Cholapuram.

He possessed a naval fleet which gained success across the Bay of Bengal. He sent expeditions to Java and Sumatra to further the commercial relation in Malaya peninsula.
