Endocrine glands are ductless glands. They secrete hormones and release directly in the blood stream. The hormones reach the target organs, bind with the receptors and carry out their functions. The major glands that make up human endocrine system are pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid, pineal, pancreas, ovaries, testes etc. the pituitary is called as the master gland as it controls all other endocrine glands.The important hormones in the human body are Thyroxine, Insulin, Oestrogen and Progesterone.

Thyroid hormone: Thyroid gland basically releases two hormones Tri-iodothyronine and Thyroxine, which helps in controlling the metabolism of our body.
Insulin: This hormone is released by Pancreas, a leaf like gland located in the abdominal cavity behind the stomach. It allows the body to use glucose or sugar from carbohydrates in the food for energy or to store glucose for future use.

Oestrogen: Oestrogen, or oestrogen, is the primary female sex hormone released by ovaries. It is responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics.
Progesterone: Progesterone is a hormone released by the corpus luteum in the ovary. It plays an important role in the menstrual cycle and maintenance of pregnancy.
