Read the passage and answer the question.
A few hundred years ago, there lived a king called Hong Ti in China. He was one of the first persons to use a magnet for a definite purpose. He got a special kind of statue fixed in his chariot. It was the statue of a lady with an extended arm and it behaved peculiarly. No matter in which direction the chariot went, the statue would rotate and the arm would always point in the North-South direction.
