(a) Lavoisier is the French scientist, he classified the elements into metals and non-metals based on their physical and chemical properties. (b) Dobereiner was a German chemist who proposed the law of triads. According to this law, when elements are arranged in the increasing order of their atomic mass, the arithmetic mean of the atomic masses of the first and third element in a triad would be approximately equal to the atomic mass of the second element. (c) The ‘law of octaves’ was enunciated by Newlands. He observed that on arranging elements in the increasing order of their atomic masses there was much similarity in the properties of every eighth element to the first element. Newlands called this repetition as the law of octaves. (d) The first periodic table was given by Mendeleev. He arranged the elements in the increasing order of their atomic mass. He arranged elements in different groups and periods. (e) Moseley gave the long form of periodic table in which elements have been arranged in the order of increasing atomic number.
