Proper nutrition in the form of minerals is essential for growth. Hormones act as growth regulators, hence they can either accelerate or retard the growth. Enzymes participate in metabolic processes that help the growth process. The genes present in the chromosomes are the bearer of heredity. The growth depends upon hereditary factors. Water is also necessary for performing various metabolic activities.

External factors include light, temperature, air, soil water, food, etc. Plant growth is widely regulated by light that controls the concentration of hormone auxin mainly IAA. Growth generally occurs in the temperature range of 0⁰C-45⁰C. Air contains carbon dioxide, oxygen and nitrogen which are essential for plant growth. Soil water and prepared food are also essential for the plant growth.
