Vitamins are a group of organic compounds which are required by the body in small quantities. They are required by the body for normal cell functioning, growth and development of the body. There are two type of vitamins i.e. water-soluble and fat soluble vitamins. There are 13 vitamins present out of which 4 are fat soluble and 9 vitamins are water-soluble. Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluble vitamins, they are taken up along with fats and can be stored in the body. Whereas water-soluble vitamins get dissolved in water and are transported through blood throughout the body. Examples of water-soluble vitamins are vitamin C and vitamin B complex.
