Important Points to Remember in Chapter -1 - Money from Asit Das Gupta Junior Maths 3 Solutions

1. Indian Currency:

(i) The Indian currency is Rupee.

(ii) Indian currency is available in coins and notes.

(iii) Coin is a piece of money made of metal and Notes is an amount of paper money in a particular currency.

(iv) The symbol of rupee is .

(v) The denominations in Indian currency notes such as of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 2000.

(vi) The shape of 5-rupees coin is circular. 5-rupees coin is thicker than other coins.

(vii) The shape of 10-rupees coin is circular. 10-rupees coin is bigger than other coins.

(viii) 1=100 paise.

(ix) In short, we write Re for a rupee, Rs for rupees, and p for paise.

(x) Question Image We write it as 2 rupee 60 paise.

(xi) For a quick addition of money, we add rupees to rupees and paise to paise. Example: 10+5+10 paise+20 paise=15 and 30 paise

2. Conversion of Money:

(i) 1=100 paise

(ii) To convert the amount from rupees to paise, we multiply the value by 100. For example, 3=3×100 paise=300 paise

(iii) To convert the amount from rupees and paise, multiply the only rupee by 100 and add the paise to the product. For example, 9 rupees 50 paise=9×100 paise+50 paise=900 paise+50 paise=950 paise

(iv) If we remove the dot between the rupee and paise the number which remains represents paise. For example, 9.50=950 paise 

(v) The amount 23 rupees 50 paise can be written using symbol as 20.50

3. Addition of Money:

(i) Add like decimal numbers.

(ii) Don't forget to regroup as 100 paise =1 rupee.

4. Subtraction of Money:

(i) Subtract like decimal numbers.

(ii) Don't forget to decompose as 1 rupee =100 paise.

5. Word problems on Money:

(i) Addtion is performed when we have the terms like total, sum, how many, all together etc. are used.

(ii) Subtraction is performed when we have the terms like subtract, minus, take away, less / fewer than, difference, decrease, how many are left/remain, change – in money questions.

6. Bill: 

(i) Bills are given by the shopkeepers to the customers as an acknowledgment of purchase.

(ii) Bills give us complete details about the purchase.

(iii) The format of bill received on purchase of items is shown below.
