A landfill is a large low-lying open area for the disposal of non-biodegradable garbage. The waste or garbage is collected by the municipal corporation. It is first segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. The non-biodegradable wastes are then taken to landfills. Garbage is dumped into the landfill, then it is covered with the soil.

Non-biodegradable wastes, such as plastic and glass, that can be reused, are recycled. Here, these wastes are melted and used to make new products. This process of making new useful objects out of old used objects is known as recycling. By this method, we reduce the amount of garbage that goes into bins and landfills. Soil pollution is also reduced to a large extent by practicing the method of recycling.
