Dairy Farming- It has its roots in Europe, where the climate is suitable for natural pastures. Cattle are reared for milk near big cities to meet the needs of people working in factories. Dairy farms need a large labour force to look after the cattle. Huge capital investments are thus needed.

Commercial Farming - In commercial farming, the crops are grown and livestock is reared for sale in the market. The farms are generally large in size and the investments are high. Most of the work on the farm is done by machines. This type of farming is mostly practised in the Prairies of North America, the Pampas of South America and the Steppes of Eurasia.
