Nerves are the thread-like white structures that emerge from the brain and spinal cord and branch out to almost all body parts. On the basis of function, nerves are of 3 types:-

Sensory nerves:- These are made up of sensory neuron fibres and carry impulses from the receptor to the CNS (Central Nervous system), that is the brain or spinal cord.

Motor nerves:- These are made up of motor neuron fibres and carry impulses from the CNS to the effectors like muscles or glands. The axon terminals of these nerves come in contact with the motor end plate to form neuromuscular junction.

Mixed nerves: These are made up of both sensory and motor neuron fibres and carry impulses to and from the CNS respectively. All spinal nerves are mixed nerves.
