Excretion is the process of elimination of nitrogenous wastes such as urea, uric acid and ammonia from the body. This process is carried out by the nephrons in the kidneys. There are three steps by which the excretion in the nephron occurs. They are:

Glomerular ultrafiltration.

Selective reabsorption.

Tubular secretion.

The process of excretion that occurs in the glomerulus is the ultrafiltration. The blood enters the glomerulus through the afferent arteriole and leaves through the efferent arteriole under high pressure. This results in the filtration of blood where components such as water, sugars, salts, ions, etc are forced out of the capillary walls and enter the glomerulus and Bowman’s capsule. They further enter the tubular region of the nephron. Large molecules remain in the blood. The filtrate contains water, glucose, salts, urea, vitamins, etc. It is called the glomerular filtrate.
