Animals can move from one position to another. This change in place due to movement is termed as locomotion. Different animals use different organs for locomotion.

a) Birds use their wings to fly.

Note- Birds are adapted for aerial habitat and can fly to reach from one place to another. Their forelimbs are modified into wings which help in their flight. They also have flight feathers in their wings and tail which makes it easier for them to change heights and direction of flight.

b) Fish uses fins to swim.

Note- Fishes are adapted for aquatic habitat. They have streamlined bodies to reduce friction and different fins to help them swim in the water. The paired fins help them to main stability in water, while the tail fin at the posterior end of the body, acts as a steering organ to determine direction.

c) Earthworm moves with the help of its body muscles.

Note- Earthworm is adapted for terrestrial habitat. It shows peristaltic or wave-like movement by the alternate contraction and relaxation of the circular and longitudinal muscles of its body. It has setae on the ventral side of each segment which helps it to anchor the substratum while moving forward.
