Image (a) is showing filtration process. The process of separating insoluble solid particles from a solid-liquid mixture by passing it through a filter is called filtration. This process is used to separate lighter and insoluble solid particles from a liquid. The insoluble solid particles that remain on the filter are called the residue. The clean liquid that passes through the filter is called the filtrate.

Image (b) is showing the process of sedimentation. The settling down of heavier insoluble solid particles at the bottom of liquid is called sedimentation. The clear liquid above is called supernatant liquid. Image (c) is showing the process of decantation.
