Plants such as date palm need hot dry summer, moderate winter climatic conditions with no rain during the fruit ripening period, which can adapt to desert climates.

Disadvantages of desert farming are:

Desert soil is less fertile, thus can't grow most of the plants such as wheat.

Desert receives very little rainfall thus, plants do not get sufficient water to grow.

Desert farming requires extra irrigation.
