The area of the quadrilateral $A B C D$

$= length \times breadth = A B \times A D$

We can find $A B$ and $A D$ using distance formula.

$A B = \sqrt{{(- 4 - 1)}^{2} + {(2 - 2)}^{2}} = \sqrt{25} = 5$ units
