(a) We call the process through which the leaves lose water in form of water vapour transpiration. This process is essential in keeping the water balance in a plant body and in making the roots able to keep on absorbing water from the soil. This is a continuous process that increases during the day and decreases during the night. The above-given diagram shows water droplets on the polythene when a plant is kept in sunlight demonstrating the process of transpiration. It forms water droplets because of the vapour lost by the leaves. The rate of transpiration increases during the daytime, so keeping the pant in sunlight only for about an hour is enough to form these droplets. Transpiration helps to transport water in the xylem vessels. (b) Transpiration is the process of loss of water in the form of water vapour from the leaves. When the plant is covered with a polythene bag, the water vapour converts into water droplets through the process of condensation. These water droplets can be observed on the inner side of the polythene bag. The plant was also covered to observe the process of transpiration. (c) Transpiration is the process of loss of water in the form of water vapour from the leaves. When the plant is covered with a polythene bag and placed outside in sunlight, the water vapour converts into water droplets by the process of condensation. These water droplets can be observed on the inner side of the polythene bag. If the plant is placed inside the room, due to the lack of sunlight the stomata will not open. Loss of water, i.e. transpiration will not occur. No water droplets would be observed on the inner surface of the polythene bag.
