Read the following passage and answer the question given below:

One day a poor woodcutter was cutting a tree on the bank of a river. By chance, his iron axe slipped from his hands fell into the water and disappeared. The woodcutter sat down and began to cry about his loss. The river god, feeling sorry for him, dived to the bottom and brought out a golden axe. But the woodcutter said that it was not his. The river-god dived again and this time brought out a silver axe, but the woodcutter again refused to take it.
After a third dive into the water, the river-god brought out the iron axe.  “That is mine,” cried the poor woodcutter, in great delight. The river god was so pleased with his honesty that he gave him the gold and silver axes also. The woodcutter went to his cottage rejoicing.

Read the following passage and answer the question given below:

In March, the family sat down at the table and began to talk about the summer holiday. Where should they go this year? That was the question of which had to be answered. Should they go to the seaside or to the country? Did they prefer fun on the farm? Or basking on a beach? The children soon settled that. With one voice they cried, “Seaside, please?”
“Let’s go somewhere where there is good swimming,” said Sally, who had just won her Life-saving certificate, and good fishing,” said Alan, who had been given a smart rod for his birthday. “What about mountain climbing? Paul asked. He had been to Switzerland the year before, with the Scout trip.
“Your mother and I just want to sit on a beach'' said father, “that is, if you don’t mind, of course".
“Two deck chairs for a fortnight for mother and Father. Then everyone will be happy”, the children cried.

Read the following passage and answer the question given below:

Once, a hare and a tortoise began to argue as to which of them was faster. They decided to arrange a race over a certain distance. Almost as soon as they started, the hare was far ahead and out of sight, whilst the tortoise had gone only a few yards.
The hare now thought he should take things easy. He lay down to have a nap until the tortoise could catch up with him. But the tortoise plodded on and on. The hare overslept and woke with a start. In the distance, he could see the tortoise, which had passed by him while he was asleep, very near to the winning post. He ran with all his might in an effort to be first, but the slow and steady tortoise crawled past the finish line some yards in front of the much speedier hare.
