The black-brown oily and lathery water that goes down the drain of a house is called wastewater. This wastewater contains animal excreta and all the waste from the kitchen. Wastewater cannot be used for any purpose but can be recycled by the water treatment plant to make potable water.

The contaminants present in sewage is called pollutants. These substances that cause water pollution. A wide variety of substances can pollute water bodies, including microorganisms, organic waste, plant nutrients, toxic chemicals, etc.

WWTP stands for "Wastewater Treatment Plant". This involves the removal of all pollutants from wastewater and make it fit for consumption.
