1. Respiration is a biochemical process involving the complete breakdown of the food we eat to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. This process takes place in the cytoplasm and mitochondria of cells.

2. The respiration process, which takes place in absence of oxygen is called anaerobic respiration. During anaerobic respiration in animals, glucose is incompletely broken and converted to lactic acid, and some amount of energy is given out.

3. Bronchioles are formed by the branching out of bronchi entering into the lungs on either side. At the other end of these bronchioles, there are very small air sacs called alveoli. Alveoli are the sites of gaseous exchange.

4. When we breathe in, the air enters through our nostrils. These are the external opening of the human respiratory system, and these lead to the nasal passage.
