Sodium is metal and sulphur is non-metal. Sodium is a very reactive alkali metal that is highly electropositive in nature. Sulphur is a nonmetal that belongs to the oxygen family in the periodic table. Sulphur is a poor conductor of heat and electricity and electronegative in nature. The metallic character decreases as we move along the period. Sodium reacts vigorously with oxygen to form sodium oxide. The balanced chemical equation is as follows: 4 Na + O 2 → 2 Na 2 O The sodium oxide formed will then react with water vapour in the air to give sodium hydroxide.
