(i)-C The neuron is the basic structural and functional unit of the nervous system. The neuron is the longest cell of the body which consists of three parts the axon, cyton, and dendrons. The cyton gives rise to several small projections called the dendrons and a long projection called the axon. The axon of one nerve cell remains connected to the dendrons of another nerve cell through the synapse. The cyton contains a nucleus, cytoplasm, and Nissil granules which are the fragments of the endoplasmic reticulum. (ii)-D The eyes are one of the sense organs called the photoreceptors. The main parts of the human eye are the cornea, iris, pupil, aqueous humour, lens, vitreous humour, retina, and optic nerves. The small circular area at the back of the retina where the optic nerves enter the eyeball and which is devoid of rods and cones and is not sensitive to the light is called the blind spot. (iii)-E The process of respiration involves the utilization of oxygen for the break down of food to provide energy and the carbon dioxide is released. The plants do not have specific organs for the respiration and exchange of gases. The stem of the plants have small pores for the exchange of gases, these are called the lenticels. (iv)-A The transpiration is the process of loss of water through the surface of the leaves. The apparatus used to measure the rate of absorption of water by the leafy shoot during the transpiration of water is called the potometer or transpirometer. (v)-B The centrosomes consisting of two bundles of microtubules called the centrioles. The centrosomes play an important role in the cell division. The centrosome will divide into two daughter centrosomes, and each centrosome will migrate to the opposite side of the nucleus during cell division. As mitosis or meiosis begins, centrosomes create two new structures: spindle fibres, which connect the sister centrosomes to each other, and asters which provide support and guidance to the chromosomes, During mitosis and meiosis, asters help chromosomes line up in the centre of the nucleus.
