Salivary gland These are rarely found in the fishes, they have mucus secreting cells. These are poorly developed in birds and secrete mucus for lubricating food. These are completely developed and secrete salivary amylase enzyme.

Stomach The stomach in the fishes varies greatly, depending upon the diet. It is a simple straight or curved tube with a muscular wall and glandular lining. The stomach in birds consists of two parts, the proventriculus where the food get mixed with gastric acid and digestive juice and the gizzard, where the food is grinded into small pieces. The stomach of carnivore is single chambered.
