Solids have definite shape due to the presence of strong interparticle attractive forces. Liquids do not have definite shape because of weaker interparticle attractive forces. Gases do not have definite shape due to the absence of any significant interparticle attractive forces.

Due to close-packed structure, solids are hard and rigid and have very low compressibility. Liquids have low compressibility. Due to the presence of empty space in liquids, they are more compressible than solids. Gases have high compressibility due to the presence of interparticle empty space.

In Solids, the atoms or molecules are very closely packed. In liquids, the atoms or molecules are packed slight loosely. In gases, there is no order of arrangement of molecules. The particles are free to move in any direction.
