Take the cap of a plastic bottle having a wide mouth and pour different liquids into it. Then dip the open ends of two wires of the tester in the taken liquid. Hold the wire above a magnetic needle that is directed towards north-south such that even a very feeble current will generate magnetic property and shows deflection in the magnetic needle. Take different liquids in the plastic cap and test their electrical conductivity by this method. Write down the observations in the table given below:

The compounds which are able to conduct electricity in a fused state or in a solution is called electrolytes. Acid or alkali solution are examples of electrolytes. Here vinegar that contain acetic acid and lime juice which contain citric acid conducts electricity. Drinking water contains many salts or metal compounds, these ions are responsible for electrical conduction while coconut oil and honey are non-conductors, they are non-electrolytes and do not have ions in it.
