A child also has eight incisors. 3 The incisor is situated at the front of the mouth and it is used to cut and bite the food. 1 The name of the tooth is canine. It has pointy edges. 2 There are four canines in an adult's mouth, two in each jaw. 3 The canine is situated at the side of the mouth and it is used to used for tearing apart food. The canines are more developed in carnivores, this helps to catch and tear flesh. 1 The name of the tooth is premolar. It is bigger and flatter than the incisor and the canine. 2 There are eight premolars in an adult's mouth, four in each jaw. 3 The premolar is situated at the back of the mouth and it is used to chew and crush food into a paste. 1 The name of the tooth is molar. It is bigger and flatter than the incisor and the canine. 2 There are twelve molars in an adult's mouth, six in each jaw. A child has eight molars. 3 The molar is situated at the back of the mouth and it is used to masticate and grind food into a paste.
