The unit of length convenient on the atomic scale is known as an angstrom and is denoted by Å: 1 Å=10-10 m. The size of a hydrogen atom is about 0.5 Å. What is the total atomic volume in m3 of a mole of hydrogen atoms?

Important Points to Remember in Chapter -1 - Units and Measurements from NCERT PHYSICS PART 1 TEXTBOOK FOR CLASS XI Solutions

2 Milli m 103
3 Micro μ 106
4 Nano n 109
5 Pico p 1012
6 Kilo K 103

5. Errors in measurements:

(i) Values obtained from several measurements are a1,a2, a3. an: Mean value amean= a1+a2+ann

(ii) Absolute error of a measurement Δa1= a1-amean

(iii) Mean absolute error Δamean= Δa1+Δa2+...Δan.n

(iv) Any measurement we take for the physical quantity a may lie between amean+Δamean and amean-Δamean

(v) Relative error in = Δameanamean

(vi) Percentage error = Δameanamean×100%

6. Combination of errors:

(i) If two physical quantities A and B have measured values a±Δa and b±Δb and if Z= A+B and Z is expressed as z±Δz, then z= a+b and Δz= Δa+Δb

(ii) If Z= A-B and Z is expressed as z±Δz, then z= a-b and Δz= Δa+Δb

(iii) If Z= A×B and Z is expressed as z±Δz, then z= a×b and Δz= zΔaa+Δbb

(iv) If Z= A÷B and Z is expressed as z±Δz, then z= a÷b and Δz= zΔaa+Δbb

(v) If Z= An and Z is expressed as z±Δz, then z= an and Δz= nzΔaa
