Zoological garden can be characterised as a facility in which animals are confined within enclosers, displayed to the public and in which they may also be bred. In the zoos the wild animals are kept in protected environments which is manmade where the conditions are made similar to their natural habitats as far as possible. Both endemic as well as exotic animals are kept and conserved. Importance of zoological garden :- 1. Most conventional methods of ex-situ conservation and protection of the specimen for breeding and reintroduction of the animal into the wild when necessary and possible. 2. Provide housing and care for specimens of endangered species and also have an educational value. 3. Zoos are providing an exceptional and unique advantage for the study of wild animals in captive condition which may be helpful for future survival of the wild animals. 4. Zoos are also providing a place for the treatment of injury and any kind of disease of the wild animals in the zoo-hospital and after cure the animals are returned to their natural habitat.
