Advantages of sandy soil:

Sandy soils are light and easy to plough. The larger soil particles are packed loosely, so there is a lot of air space between them which provides good aeration to the plant roots.

In clayey soil, fine soil particles are packed more closely water clings to this type of soil and does not pass through easily. So clayey soil has very good water holding capacity.

Disadvantages of Sandy soil:

This type of soil does not hold water. It lets the water percolate or drains out easily. So, the soil dries out soon after the rain and plants are deprived of water. The dry soil also gets blown away easily.

In this type of soil, there is not enough space between the particles for air. This deprives root of air, especially when it rains a lot and the soil gets waterlogged. This type of soil is heavy and difficult to plough. When it dries, it becomes hard.
