Different animals have different food habits. Based on their feeding habits, animals can be grouped as follows.

Herbivores: They eat only plants. Herbivorous animals use their sharp front teeth for cutting grass or other parts of plants. The flat blunt molar teeth at the back of the mouth help in grinding the food. For example deer, cow etc.

Carnivores: They eat only the flesh of other animals. Sometimes carnivores are called predators. They are secondary or above consumers of a food chain. Lions and tigers have strong bodies, sharp claws and sharp canine teeth to catch prey and tear their flesh. Eagle has strong talons to catch prey and sharp beak to tear their flesh from the body.

Omnivores: They eat both plants and the flesh of other animals. They have different types of teeth such as sharp, flat, pointed and ridged to eat both plants and the flesh of other animals. Humans, bears, etc. are some examples of omnivores.

Scavengers: They eat the flesh of other dead, decaying animals. Vultures, hyenas, jackals, etc are some examples of scavengers.
