A colloidal solution or simply colloid is a type of solution in which the size of the particles lies in between those of a true solution and a suspension.
The different types of colloidal solutions are as follows:

Solid sol is a colloid where dispersed phase and dispersion medium both are solid. Eg. pigmented plastic and coloured gemstones.

Sol is a colloid where dispersed phase is solid and dispersion medium is liquid. Eg. white of an egg and toothpaste.

Aerosol is a colloid where dispersed phase is solid and dispersion medium is gas. Eg. smoke and dust.

Gel is a colloid where dispersed phase is liquid and dispersion medium is solid. Eg. jelly and cheese.

Emulsion is a colloid where dispersed phase and dispersion medium are both liquid. Eg. milk and face-cream.

Foam is a colloid where dispersed phase is gas and dispersion medium is solid or may be liquid. Eg. pumice stone, bread, whipped cream and shaving cream.
