The natural surroundings where organisms live is called their habitat. Habitat provides food, shelter, proper climatic conditions to an organism. There are five different types of habitats. They are:

Terrestrial habitat- Terrestrial habitats consist of habitats on land like forests, grasslands, deserts and mountains. Examples of organisms that live on lands like cow, horse, lion, elephant, camel and tiger are terrestrial organisms.

Aquatic habitat- Aquatic habitats include habitats in water like ponds, lakes, rivers and oceans. Examples of organisms that live in water are fish, lotus, water lily, water chestnut and water hyacinth are aquatic organisms.

Arboreal habitat- Arboreal habitats include habitats on trees. Examples of organisms that live on trees like monkeys and squirrels are arboreal organisms.

Aerial habitat- Birds have aerial habitat as they use the sky or air for their activities.

Amphibious habitat- Some animals like frog and toad live both on land and in water. Such animals are called amphibians and their habitat is called an amphibious habitat.
