Cells are the structural and functional unit of life. The small structure which performs a specific task inside the cell is called a cell organelle. The different cell organelles are as follows :

Cell membrane: This membrane is a semi-permeable membrane that protects the cellular components. It is the outermost layer of the animal cell but lies next to the cell wall in plant cells.

Golgi's body: This is a double membrane-bound organelle that has sac's stack together. It helps in transporting fats and proteins.

Vacuole: They are fluid-filled sac's covered by a membrane. It stores excess water and food.

Lysosomes: These contain chemical substances called enzymes which digests the unwanted and aged cells. It is also known as suicidal bags.

Endoplasmic reticulum: It is the network of tubules and channels that help synthesise and transport cell products.

Ribosomes: These are small granular substances that are found scattered in the cytoplasm. It is responsible for protein synthesis.

Mitochondria: These are double membrane-bound organelles that are the sites of energy production in the form of ATP(Adenosine triphosphate). Hence, known as the powerhouse of the cell.

Plastids: These are the structures present in plant cells only. Responsible for pigmentation and storage of food. They are three types, namely chloroplast, chromoplast, and leucoplasts.

Centromere: These are present only in animal cells. It is responsible for cell division.
