These forests are found in the monsoon regions of Asia including large parts of the Indian subcontinent, Central America and Northern Australia. Mangrove forests with Sundri trees occur in the delta areas like the Sunderbans.

The wildlife in these forests includes tigers (e.g., Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh), lions (Gir forests of Gujarat), rhinoceroses, elephants, leopards, langoors, monkeys and snakes.
