Epimysium is the outermost sheath of dense fibrous elastic connective tissue surrounding the entire muscle. Epimysium is a structure whose function is to protect the muscles from friction against other muscles and bones.

Endomysium is the innermost thin sheath of areolar connective tissues separating individual muscle fibre and located just above the sarcolemma. The endomysium separates the muscle fibres from one another and allows the autonomous gliding during muscle contraction.

Perimysium is the connective tissue sheath that surrounds a group of 10 to 100 or even more muscle fibres separating them into bundles called fascicles. Perimysium plays an important role in transmitting lateral contractile movements.

A sarcomere is the functional unit of striated muscle. Sarcomere initiates the large, sweeping movement by contracting. Their unique structure allows these tiny units to coordinate our muscles’ contractions.

The triad is a three-element complex structure that is formed by T-tubules with sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) present on either side of the muscle cell. Each skeletal muscle fibre has numerous triads present within them.
