Animal tissues are of 4 types. They are the epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue and nervous tissue.

Epithelial tissue: It is a type of tissue that is found everywhere in the body. They form the coverings of all the body surfaces, organs and are the major tissue of the gland. The epithelial tissue that covers the gland is known as the glandular tissue. Its main function is secretion of hormones, enzymes and other substances.

Connective tissue: The tissue that is found between other tissues is known as connective tissue. The major type of connective tissue are supportive tissue and the fluid connective tissue. Bone is a supportive connective tissue. It is involved in the providing structure, strength to the body.

Muscle tissue: The soft tissue that makes up the muscles is known as the muscle tissue. It is of three types. They are the skeletal muscles, cardiac muscles and smooth muscles. The cardiac muscle makes up the heart and is responsible for the contraction of the heart.

Nervous tissue: It consists of the cells called neurons, and supporting cells called neuroglia. Neurons are the cells that are involved with the transmission of nerve impulses.
