The Revolution consisted in the suppression of what was called the feudal system, in the emancipation of the individual, in greater division of landed property, the abolition of the privileges of noble birth, and the establishment of equality. The changes made by the Radicals in the French Constitution are as follows:-

(a) The Constitution of $1791$ the retained hereditary monarchy while the monarch had little authority.

(b) The legislative authority was vested in the Legislative Assembly to be elected by the taxpaying citizens.

(c) Church properties were confiscated. Bishops and priests were made responsible to the state. They were required to take an oath of allegiance to the constitution.

The constitution was signed by the king and became the law of the land. The king was the figurehead, the nobility had lost all their titles and most of their land. The Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizens, the Right to life, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom of Opinion and Equality before law became the natural rights for all citizens.
