Methyl orange is an indicator frequently used to identify the nature of the solution. Methyl orange shows red colour in acidic medium, yellow colour in basic medium. When methyl orange is added to test tube A which contains NaCl solution does not show any colour change since sodium chloride is a neutral solution. When methyl orange is added to test tube B which contains NH 4 Cl solution turns slightly to red colour as ammonium chloride is acidic in nature. When methyl orange is added to test tube C which contains Na 2 CO 3 solution turns slightly to yellow as sodium carbonate is basic in nature.
