The weight of the column of air exerts pressure on the surface of the Earth and on all objects on the earth which is called air pressure.

As the hot air rises, creating a low-pressure area, cooler air from surrounding areas rushes in to take its place. This cooler air is denser, so it exerts more pressure. In other words, we can say that cooler air blows in from a place where the pressure is higher. And in general, we can say that winds blow from regions of high pressure to regions of low pressure. The greater the difference in pressure, the greater is the speed of the wind.
So, if the pressure at a place falls to a great extent. The chances are that high-speed winds will blow in from other areas where the pressure is higher. In other words, low pressure indicates a chance of stormy weather.
On the other hand, high pressure at a place indicates nice weather.
