The word 'Amend' means to make a change for the betterment of society. The meaning of the amendment is to make a change official or formal to any legal document, constitution or contract. Amendments are done to add, remove or update the legal document or constitution.

In the constitution, amendments are done to meet the expectations of the time. With the changing times, our society needs new laws or improvement in the previous laws, that is why our parliament make amendments in the constitution from time to time.

When we adopted our constitution, it had $395$ Articles and $8$ Schedules, but as of now, it has $448$ Articles, $12$ Schedules and over $100$ Amendments. A constitutional amendment has to be passed by both the houses of the parliament and must be approved by the president of India.
