Demineralised water is free from all soluble mineral salts. And it is obtained by passing water successively through a cation exchange (in the $H^{+}$ form) and an anion exchange (in the ${OH}^{-}$ form) resins. In the cation exchange process, $H^{+}$ exchanges for ${Na}^{+}, {Ca}^{2 +}, {Mg}^{2 +}$ and other cations present in water. And protons release makes the water acidic.

In the anion exchange process, ${OH}^{-}$ exchanges for anions like ${Cl}^{-}, {HCO}_{3}^{-}, {SO}_{4}^{2 -}$ and other anions present in water.

${RNH}_{2} (s) + H_{2} O (l) \to {RNH}_{3}^{+} . {OH}^{-} (s) {RNH}_{3}^{+} . {OH}^{-} (s) + X^{-} (aq) \to {RNH}_{3}^{+} . X^{-} (s) + {OH}^{-} (aq)$

The liberated ${OH}^{-}$ neutralise the $H^{+}$ ions liberated in the cation exchange process to form water. And we get the demineralised water.
