The changes that take place in the body of an organism to maintain their body with the genetic mutation changes in the external environment are called phenotypic adaptations. This type of adaptation can occur in two phases. The first phase involves the phenotypic changes without inducing mutation. The second phase involves the changes altered by mutation during adaptive development. These adjustments on which the organism responds positively, occur in them to cope with environmental conditions present in their natural habitats. One example of phenotypic adaptation is the presence of thick cuticle and sunken stomata on the leaf surface of desert plants to prevent loss of water during transpiration.
